Description
Kollmorgen Seidel 6SM37M-6000 High-Speed Synchronous Servo Motor, 6000 RPM, 1Nm Continuous Torque
Product Description
The 6SM37M-6000 is a brushless permanent magnet synchronous servo motor from Kollmorgen Seidel 6SM series, originally engineered for high dynamic, compact machine automation. It adopts sinusoidal winding design, equipped with resolver feedback as standard, and supports optional 24VDC holding brake (suffix -G variant). This motor delivers fast acceleration, low cogging torque and stable high-speed performance at 6000 RPM. It is widely paired with Kollmorgen SERVOSTAR servo amplifiers for CNC, handling and rotary axis applications. This model is discontinued by the original manufacturer, available via surplus, refurbished and spare stock channels.

Compatibility & Installation Traps
Compatibility
- Primary matched drives: Kollmorgen SERVOSTAR 600 series amplifiers
- Feedback: Resolver signal, requires resolver interface on servo drive; not plug-and-play with encoder-only drives
- Mounting: Standard 75mm B5 flange; compatible with gear reducers with matching IEC75 interface
- Control platform: Works with IEC61131-3 PLC, CNC controllers supporting resolver-based servo
Critical Installation Traps
- Discontinued Firmware & Parts: OEM production stopped; original spare windings and resolver components are limited. Confirm repair source before long-term machine reliance.
- Resolver Wiring Mix-up: Resolver has sine/cosine and excitation lines. Wrong pin assignment causes unstable speed, oscillation or drive resolver fault. Do not swap resolver and power connectors.
- Brake Misuse: The optional 24V brake is a standstill holding brake only. It cannot perform dynamic emergency stopping; using it for repeated dynamic braking burns the brake lining rapidly.
- IP64 Limitation: The motor is IP64 for shaft and housing, but connectors are exposed. Ensure proper connector gaskets are seated; missing seals cause moisture ingress in humid workshops.
- High-Speed Shaft Alignment: At 6000 RPM, poor coupling misalignment creates excessive vibration, bearing noise and premature bearing failure. Precision alignment is mandatory.
- Voltage Derating: 400V winding will reach only half rated speed if operated on a 300VDC bus. Verify DC bus voltage of the SERVOSTAR drive before commissioning.
- Cable Requirements: Use shielded resolver and power servo cables. Unshielded cables induce resolver noise, leading to position drift and drive overcurrent alarms.
- Bearing Lubrication: Original bearings are lifetime lubricated under normal S1 duty. Continuous high-cycle 24/7 operation requires periodic bearing inspection, no re-grease port.
Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
- Pre-installation inspection: Check shaft for free rotation without binding; inspect connector seals, shaft seal and housing for corrosion. Measure winding insulation resistance and resolver continuity.
- Mechanical mounting: Align coupling or gearbox concentrically; apply torque to flange bolts following torque specification. Confirm no axial preload on motor shaft.
- Cable termination: Wire power cable and resolver shield to cabinet earth bar. Separate resolver signal cables from high-power AC cables to avoid crosstalk.
- Drive configuration: Load the correct motor parameter file in SERVOSTAR software; set resolver pole number, torque constant and thermal protection threshold.
- No-load test: Execute motor auto-tune with no load attached; run slow speed jog test, check resolver position tracking, noise and temperature rise.
- Load commissioning: Mount mechanical load, perform homing and cyclic motion test; monitor peak current, speed ripple and thermal rise at 6000 RPM continuous operation.
- Maintenance & storage: Disconnect drive power before disassembly. Store spare motors in dry ESD-protected area; rotate shaft manually every 6 months for long storage.
