Description
Product Applications
The TRICONEX 4329 is a critical communication interface designed for Tricon Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS). It enables the Tricon controller to communicate with other Tricon systems, external hosts, and plant-wide networks over Ethernet. Key applications include:
- Emergency Shutdown Systems (ESD) and Fire & Gas (F&G) Systems.
- Data exchange between the Tricon SIS, Distributed Control Systems (DCS), and upper-level operator stations.
- Interfacing with Modbus devices, OPC clients, and GPS time synchronization sources.
- Peer-to-peer communication between multiple Tricon controllers for redundant safety logic.

Specifications & Key Features
The 4329 NCM is engineered for high reliability within a Triple Modular Redundant (TMR) architecture.
| Feature | Specification |
|---|---|
| Product Type | Network Communication Module (NCM) |
| Ethernet Ports | 2 x BNC Connectors (NET 1 & NET 2) |
| Communication Speed | 10 Mbps (IEEE 802.3) |
| Cable Type | RG58 50-ohm coaxial cable |
| Serial Port | 1 x RS-232 Compatible |
| Port Isolation | 500 VDC |
| Supported Protocols | TriStation, Modbus (TCP/IP & Serial), TCP/IP, UDP/IP, TSAA, SNTP |
| System Compatibility | Tricon v10.0 and above |
| Slot Requirement | Occupies 2 logical slots in the chassis |
Key Characteristics:
- Dual Network Ports: NET 1 supports Peer-to-Peer and Time Synchronization for safety networks comprised of Tricons only. NET 2 supports open networking to external systems using TriStation, OPC Server, or user-written TSAA applications.
- TMR Architecture: Operates within a fault-tolerant system, supporting online module replacement without process interruption (Note: NCMs do not operate as hot spares; they function independently).
- Status Monitoring: Equipped with LED indicators for PASS, FAULT, ACTIVE, TX, and RX status for easy diagnostics.
- Data Refresh: Main processors typically refresh data on the NCM once per scan to ensure real-time communication.
