Description
Bently‑Nevada 87199‑01 Stator Insulation Monitor Module
Product Description
The 87199‑01 is a rack‑mount stator insulation monitoring module manufactured by Bently Nevada, designed for generator stator winding insulation condition supervision. It continuously measures insulation resistance and leakage current of generator stator windings during operation, identifies insulation degradation, moisture ingress and winding faults, outputs alarm and trip signals to protect large‑scale generators from catastrophic insulation‑related damage.
This module fits into Bently Nevada 3300 series rack chassis. It provides on‑board signal processing, threshold comparison, local LED indication and dry‑contact relay outputs. Measurement judgment is completed inside the hardware; protection actions will not be interrupted even if host communication fails. OEM production discontinued; supplied only as aftermarket spare part for legacy power‑generation equipment.

Key Features & Benefits
- Continuous online stator insulation supervision: Real‑time tracks insulation resistance and leakage current of generator stator windings under running condition, detects insulation aging, damp contamination and winding degradation at early stage, avoiding generator short‑circuit failure.
- Configurable dual‑level alarm strategy: User‑adjustable Alert and Danger resistance thresholds. Triggers pre‑warning for slight degradation; activates trip output for severe insulation deterioration.
- Hardware‑localized protection logic: Measurement evaluation and relay drive run on‑board hardware. Rack host communication loss cannot disable insulation monitoring and alarm functions, guaranteeing generator protection integrity.
- Integrated self‑diagnosis capability: Detects module hardware faults, signal circuit open‑circuit or short‑circuit; fault status indicated via front‑panel LED and reported over rack backplane bus.
- Standard 3300‑rack mechanical compatibility: Directly installs in Bently Nevada 3300‑series monitoring chassis, seamlessly integrates with existing generator monitoring ecosystem.
- Independent relay hard‑wire outputs: Dry‑contact relay signals connect to local annunciator panel, DCS interlock and generator emergency‑trip circuit.
Application Fields
‑ Power‑generation plants: insulation protection for large‑size turbo‑generators and hydro‑generators; monitors stator winding insulation health status during unit startup, normal operation and shutdown period.‑ Critical power‑generation assets requiring continuous online insulation monitoring for stator windings.‑ Spare‑part replacement and retrofit for legacy 3300‑series monitoring racks originally equipped with 87199‑01 stator insulation monitor.

Installation and Maintenance
Installation
- Insert complete 87199‑01 module into standard slot of Bently Nevada 3300‑series rack chassis.
- Connect high‑voltage stator sensing wiring and relay output wiring onto rear‑panel terminals, strictly comply with high‑voltage safety specifications and generator protection technical requirements.
- Launch configuration software, set Alert / Danger insulation‑resistance thresholds according to generator‑manufacturer specification, download parameters to module.
- Power‑up rack; verify front‑panel Module‑OK LED illumination; check rack system for hardware‑fault alarms; perform insulation‑fault simulation test to validate alarm and relay‑trip action.
Important Note: This module belongs to legacy 3300‑system hardware, cannot be plugged into 3500‑series rack. High‑voltage wiring must follow strict electrical safety procedures. Improper threshold setting may result in false‑alarm or missing‑protection risk.
Maintenance
- Routine inspection: check rear‑side wiring terminals for dust, corrosion and loose connections; observe front‑panel LED working status.
- Periodically review rack event‑log for insulation‑resistance trending, alarm history and module self‑diagnostic fault records.
- Perform regular function simulation test to confirm alarm and relay‑trip response.
- Avoid mechanical shock and conductive contamination during module handling. Refer to Bently‑Nevada official datasheet for complete installation constraints and troubleshooting guidance.
