Description
ABB UFC760BE142 INU Interface Board, Part No. 3BHE004573R0142, for ABB Symphony / Advant OCS Control System
Product Description
The UFC760BE142 is an INU (Interface Node Unit) interface board developed for ABB Symphony and Advant OCS distributed control systems. It acts as the communication gateway between the controller and field I/O units, supporting dual Profibus DP interfaces for redundant fieldbus communication. The board integrates 8 galvanically isolated 24 VDC digital input channels and 4 configurable test output channels for signal diagnostics and loop verification. It executes data exchange, signal acquisition, fieldbus management and on-board channel diagnostics. With dual Profibus design, it delivers fault-tolerant communication to minimize system downtime. This board is widely used in power plants, pulp & paper mills and chemical processing plants for spare replacement, maintenance and retrofitting of legacy ABB Symphony DCS systems.

Compatibility & Installation Pitfalls
Compatibility
- Compatible System: ABB Symphony, Advant OCS DCS
- Rack: Symphony/Advant standard controller rack and backplane
- Fieldbus Devices: Profibus DP compatible I/O modules, field transmitters and drives
- Commissioning Tool: ABB Control Builder, Symphony system configuration software
Installation Pitfalls
- Profibus Address & Redundancy Setting: The dual Profibus DP ports require correct node address and redundant bus configuration. Incorrect bus parameters cause communication loss or bus collisions.
- Firmware Revision Matching: Replacement board firmware must match the existing system firmware version. Mismatched firmware leads to unstable bus operation and board failure to initialize.
- ESD Sensitivity: PCB components are sensitive to electrostatic discharge. ESD wrist strap must be worn when handling outside the rack.
- Termination Resistor: Profibus DP bus termination must be enabled only at the two physical bus endpoints. Wrong termination results in intermittent signal loss.
- No Hot Swap in Critical Trip Loops: Even if rack supports hot swap, avoid online replacement while the unit controls critical interlock and protection circuits.
- 24V DC Power Quality: Noise or voltage ripple on the 24V supply can trigger false DI channel alarms and Profibus communication flickering.
- Wiring Separation: Profibus fieldbus cables must be routed separately from high-current power cables to avoid EMI interference.

Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
Pre-Installation
- Verify part number UFC760BE142 / 3BHE004573R0142. Inspect PCB, connectors and housing for physical damage.
- Back up the Symphony/Advant system configuration, bus parameters and controller logic.
- Record the original Profibus node address, redundancy mode and channel wiring table.
- Isolate and lock out power for the rack and related fieldbus network. Prepare ESD protection tools.
Board Replacement & Installation
- Wear ESD wrist strap before touching the PCB.
- Unlock rack module latch and carefully extract the old UFC760BE142 board.
- Configure Profibus address and redundancy jumpers on new board to match original settings.
- Insert new board into rack slot, fully seat and lock the latch.
- Reconnect Profibus bus cables and 24VDC field wiring following the wiring diagram.
- Restore rack power supply.
Post-Installation Verification
- Check board LED indicators, confirm no hardware fault alarms.
- Download or verify system hardware configuration in Control Builder.
- Validate dual Profibus DP communication; test primary/backup bus switchover.
- Force each digital input channel and confirm correct status readback.
- Execute test output function to verify channel diagnostic capability.
- Monitor bus stability under normal operating conditions.
- Save updated configuration file, record serial number, firmware version and commissioning date in equipment log.
