Description
ABB SDCS-CON-4-COAT Coated Main Control Board for DCS800 DC Drive, Part No. 3ADT313900R1501 / 3ADT313900R1001
Product Description
The SDCS-CON-4-COAT is the conformal-coated main control board for ABB DCS800 series DC converter. The COAT variant is coated with protective conformal coating to resist moisture, dust, chemical contaminants and condensation in harsh cabinet environments. It executes closed-loop speed and current control for DC motors, generates thyristor firing pulses, handles analogue and digital I/O signals, fault diagnosis, watchdog protection and serial communication. It stores drive parameters and fault history in onboard Flash memory. The board integrates tacho/encoder feedback interfaces, DDCS optical communication port and serial links for HMI and PLC connection. It is widely used for spare replacement, retrofit and maintenance of legacy DCS800 DC drive systems in metal, paper and rolling mill industries.

Compatibility & Installation Pitfalls
Compatibility

- Communication: Works with NDBU series DDCS fiber branching units, RDCO optical adapters
- Commissioning Software: DriveWindow Light / DriveWindow
- Feedback: DC tacho, AC tacho, pulse encoder
Installation Pitfalls
- Firmware Version Matching: The replacement board firmware must match the power unit and peripheral boards. Mismatched firmware causes random trips, communication failure or loss of firing pulses.
- Parameter Backup Mandatory: All drive parameters are stored on the control board. Always back up parameters before removal; otherwise full re-commissioning is required.
- ESD Damage Risk: Even with conformal coating, exposed connectors and ICs remain sensitive to static discharge. ESD wrist strap is mandatory during handling.
- Jumper Configuration: Tacho / encoder selection jumpers on SDCS-CON-4 must be set identical to original board. Wrong jumper settings lead to speed feedback loss and overspeed risk.
- Power Off Before Board Swap: Never hot-plug this main control board. Removing or inserting the board while energized can destroy the PCB and power section.
- Conformal Coating Integrity: Do not scratch or peel the protective coating. Damaged coating reduces resistance to humidity and corrosive gas.
- DDCS Optical Connector Care: Contaminated fiber port causes unstable DDCS communication and intermittent drive alarms.

Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
Pre-Installation
- Verify part number SDCS-CON-4-COAT and inspect PCB, connectors and coating for scratches or damage.
- Connect DriveWindow software to the running drive and back up all parameters, fault logs and firmware revision record.
- Power down unit, lock out and tag out main AC supply. Confirm all internal capacitors are fully discharged.
- Prepare ESD protection tools, screwdrivers and original board jumper setting records.
Board Replacement
- Wear ESD wrist strap before touching the circuit board.
- Remove cabinet cover; carefully unplug ribbon cables, I/O terminals and DDCS fiber from old SDCS-CON-4 board.
- Extract the old control board from the slot.
- Set jumpers on new -COat exactly same as original board.
- Insert new board into slot, reconnect all ribbon cables, terminals and fiber connectors.
- Restore cabinet cover.
Post-Installation Verification
- Energize auxiliary power, check board LED status and run drive self-test.
- Restore saved parameter set via DriveWindow.
- Verify speed feedback signal, check for no hardware faults in diagnostic menu.
- Perform no-load test run, monitor current loop and speed loop stability.
- Execute fault alarm test, confirm watchdog and protection functions trigger correctly.
- Save new parameter backup file, record serial number, firmware version and replacement date in equipment log.
