Description
ABB DSSR122, Part No. 4899001-NK, Digital Signal Relay Module for Advant Controller 400 Series
Product Description
The DSSR122 is a digital signal relay output module belonging to the ABB Advant Controller 400 (AC400) system. It provides isolated relay contact outputs for switching external field devices. Each channel uses mechanical relay contacts to separate the controller logic circuit from the field power circuit, achieving galvanic isolation between the control side and load side. This module is designed for on/off control of solenoid valves, motor contactors, indicator lamps and other discrete field equipment. It supports diagnostic functions including relay status monitoring and channel fault detection, and communicates with the AC400 master controller via the Advant fieldbus backplane. Widely used in power plants, pulp & paper mills, chemical processing and legacy industrial DCS systems for spare replacement and maintenance.

Compatibility & Installation Pitfalls
Compatibility
- Compatible Controller: ABB Advant Controller 400 ()
- Rack: standard I/O rack and corresponding backplane
- Related I/O modules: DSAI130, DSAO130, DSDI130, DSDO130, DSSR121
- Programming Software: Advant Control Builder, configuration tool
Installation Pitfalls
- Contact Load Derating: Do not exceed relay contact ratings. Inductive loads (contactors, solenoids) generate back EMF and shorten relay service life; surge suppression components are required.
- Backplane Hot Swap Risk: Although some racks support module replacement online, hot removal of DSSR122 may trigger unexpected relay state changes and cause field equipment misoperation. De-energize field loads before replacement.
- Wiring Separation: Field power wiring for relay contacts must be routed separately from low-voltage control signal cables to avoid induced interference.
- ESD Protection: The PCB circuit is ESD sensitive. Wear ESD wrist strap when handling the module outside the rack.
- Configuration Matching: After module replacement, verify hardware configuration in control software. Mismatched module type will lead to communication faults.
- Contamination Risk: Dust and corrosive gas inside the cabinet will degrade relay contact performance over time.
- Field Grounding: Poor field grounding can introduce leakage current and cause false feedback signals.

Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
Pre-Installation
- Confirm part number DSSR122 / 4899001-NK. Inspect PCB, terminal block and housing for physical damage.
- Back up hardware configuration and control logic.
- Lock out / tag out all field power connected to relay output channels. Confirm field loads are de-energized.
- Prepare ESD protection tools, wiring drawings and channel list.
Module Replacement & Installation
- Wear ESD wrist strap before touching the module.
- Unlock the module latch, carefully extract the old DSSR122 from the rack slot.
- Align new module with rack guides, insert fully and lock the latch.
- Reconnect field wiring to the terminal block according to wiring diagram.
- Restore rack controller power.
Post-Installation Verification
- Check module and channel LED indicators from controller HMI. Confirm no module or channel faults.
- Download or verify hardware configuration.
- Force each output channel ON/OFF in manual mode, confirm relay action and field device response.
- Check readback status for every channel.
- Run module self-diagnostic test.
- Record serial number, replacement date and test result into equipment maintenance log.
