Description
Bently‑Nevada 3500/92‑01‑01‑00 Communication Gateway Assembly (136180‑01 Main Board + 125736‑01 Rear I/O Module)
Product Description
The 3500/92‑01‑01‑00 is full‑height communication gateway module for Bently‑Nevada 3500‑M‑series machinery‑protection rack, assembled with front gateway CPU main board 136180‑01 and rear I/O daughter‑board 125736‑01.
This gateway acquires real‑time measurement values, alarm status and diagnostic events from all monitor modules across the rack via backplane bus. The rear 125736‑01 provides multi‑selectable serial interface (RS232 / RS422 / RS485) without onboard Ethernet port, performing protocol conversion between 3500 internal bus and external Modbus‑RTU host systems such as DCS, PLC and SCADA.
This unit is purely a data‑communication device. It does NOT participate in machinery‑protection voting or trip logic. Serial communication failure will not interfere with hard‑wired alarm and trip outputs of monitor and relay modules. OEM production discontinued; supplied only as aftermarket replacement spare for legacy turbomachinery TSI racks.

Key Features & Benefits
- Serial‑only economical gateway solution: 125736‑01 rear card removes Ethernet hardware, focuses purely on serial Modbus‑RTU output, ideal for legacy plant control systems without TCP/IP network infrastructure for TSI rack integration.
- Software‑selectable serial physical layer: Switch among RS232 / RS422 / RS485 via configuration software, no hardware jumper modification; supports multi‑drop bus topology for multi‑host connection.
- Custom configurable Modbus register mapping: Users select required measurement channels, alarm bits and diagnostic tags to build dedicated Modbus register table, eliminate unused redundant registers and improve host‑system reading efficiency.
- Safety decoupled from protection loop: Gateway operates independently from monitor protection logic. Serial communication loss cannot disable machinery alarm and trip safety functions.
- Multi‑module parallel deployment support: Multiple 3500/92‑01‑01‑02 units can be installed inside single rack for data publishing toward different serial host systems.
- Backward‑compatible maintainable architecture: Fully compatible with all 3500‑M‑series monitors, power‑supplies and legacy firmware. Rear‑side 125736‑01 I/O supports hot‑swap under rack powered‑on; front‑side 136180‑01 main‑board requires slot power‑down before removal.
Application Fields
- Power‑generation, petrochemical and natural‑gas facilities: transmits vibration, thrust position, speed, bearing‑temperature and rack alarm‑status data from steam‑turbine, gas‑turbine, centrifugal‑compressor 3500‑M TSI racks to legacy serial‑based DCS, PLC and SCADA systems via Modbus‑RTU protocol.
- Retrofit projects for old‑site automation equipment which only provides serial communication interface, no Ethernet TCP/IP available.
- Spare‑part replacement and system retrofit for legacy 3500 racks originally equipped with serial‑only variant 3500/92‑01‑01‑00 communication‑gateway assembly.

Installation and Maintenance
Installation
- Mate front main‑board 136180‑01 firmly with rear‑side 125736‑01 I/O module; insert full‑height assembly into any free full‑height slot inside 3500 rack.
- Wire serial field cables onto rear‑module screw terminals, configure termination resistor for multi‑drop bus network as per site requirement.
- Launch 3500 Rack Configuration Software, build custom Modbus register mapping table, set serial parameters: station address, baud‑rate, parity, stop‑bit, select serial physical mode(RS232/422/485), download configuration to rack.
- Power‑up rack; confirm front‑panel OK‑LED status. Inspect rack event‑log for gateway self‑diagnosis, backplane‑communication and serial‑bus fault alarms. Validate Modbus‑RTU data reading from DCS / PLC host side.
Important Note: Only rear‑side 125736‑01 supports hot‑swap while rack powered‑on. Front‑side 136180‑01 CPU main‑board must be installed or removed with corresponding slot power disabled. This gateway will not execute any machinery‑protection voting or trip logic.
Maintenance
- Periodically inspect rear‑module serial screw terminals and connectors for dust accumulation, corrosion and loose wiring connections.
- Regularly review rack event‑log for gateway fault, backplane‑communication fault or serial‑bus‑error diagnostics. Troubleshoot field serial‑bus cable upon communication dropout.
- For rear‑I/O interface fault: hot‑swap 125736‑01 under rack powered‑on condition; verify serial Modbus‑RTU data‑reading function after replacement.
- For main‑board gateway logic fault: power‑down assigned rack slot before extracting 136180‑01 main‑board; reassemble with matched rear I/O module, download gateway configuration and validate full‑function recovery.
- Avoid mechanical shock and conductive contamination during module‑handling. Refer to Bently‑Nevada official document Doc‑141542 (3500/92 Gateway Datasheet & Manual) for complete installation constraints and detailed troubleshooting guidance.
