Product Overview

The XVB603 is a single-slot 6U VME Single Board Computer (SBC) from Abaco Systems, engineered around the high-performance, highly integrated Intel® Xeon® E3-1505M v6 processor platform (7th-generation “Kaby Lake”, 14nm). The Xeon integrates quad-core processing up to 3.0 GHz base / 4.0 GHz Turbo Boost, an integrated memory controller and integrated graphics in a single device. Coupled with the Intel CM238 chipset (PCIe Gen 3), the XVB603 delivers exceptional I/O bandwidth for both on-board and off-board functions.

Designed as a straightforward, cost-effective, low-risk upgrade for users of earlier XVB products, the brings enhanced processor performance, enhanced storage and improved protection against obsolescence — built on Abaco’s new Vivo FPGA-based VME interface (2eSST capable) and Intel’s long-term-supported IoT processor roadmap.

Key hardware at a glance:

  • Processor: Intel Xeon E3-1505M v6 @ 3.0 GHz (45W), Turbo to 4.0 GHz; or E3-1505L v6 low-power @ 2.2 GHz (25W), 3.0 GHz Turbo; 8 MB last-level cache; Hyper-Threading
  • Memory: Up to 16 GB dual-channel soldered DDR4 SDRAM with ECC
  • Storage: Up to 256 GB M.2 SSD, 512 KB NVRAM, BIOS + backup BIOS flash
  • Expansion: 1× on-board mezzanine site — PMC (PCI-X up to 133 MHz) and XMC (x8 PCIe)
  • I/O: Dual front Gigabit Ethernet (Intel I210), 3× USB 3.0 front, 2× USB 2.0 rear, up to 3 independent displays (DisplayPort + 2× DVI), SATA/eSATA, 3× serial ports (RS-232/422/485 selectable), 8× GPIO
  • Platform: +5 V only operation, BMC (IPMI), TPM, hardware write protection, watchdog and dual 32-bit timers
  • OS support: Windows 10, Linux, VxWorks® (64-bit) with comprehensive Built-in Test (BIT) software
  • Environment: Two air-cooled ruggedization levels — Level 1: 0 to +55 °C; Level 2: −20 to +65 °C with conformal coating; 20g shock, 0.002 g²/Hz random vibration

Applications

The targets air-cooled, front-I/O applications in relatively benign to sheltered environments — typically industrial or sheltered defense settings:

  • Defense & aerospace — C4ISR, mission computing, radar/sonar signal processing, electronic warfare, training and simulation
  • Industrial automation & control — process control, machine control, factory-floor data acquisition
  • Test, measurement & instrumentation — bench and ATE (automatic test equipment) systems
  • Transportation & energy — rail, marine, power-grid monitoring and control
  • Security & surveillance — video/image processing, data concentrators
  • Legacy VME modernization — drop-in performance upgrades for installed XVB601/XVB602 or other 6U VME systems, protecting existing backplanes and I/O investments
